when liquid is heated the molecules of that liquid absorb heat energy which possesses kinetic energy between the molecules and they move up faster and faster does when they move there is very less space they move upward in the container which they contain and heated so which travel faster when there is more heat as there is no increase in kinetic energy but once the heat energy is stopped Travels slowly because there is still kinetic energy between them which is less compared to the kinetic energy when the heat is given
