1. Preparation of soil - The first step in the crop production is the preparation of soil. it consist of loosening and turning the soil is called tiling or ploughing.
2. Seed selection and sowing - After the soil is prepared, seed are sown in it. It can be done Manually or by using seed drill.
3. Manuring - The plants require nutrients for growth. Some natural methods are; field fallow, crop rotation, mixed cropping. We can also use fertilizers and manures. Some common fertilizers are NPK fertilizers
4.weeding- Weeds are unwanted plants that grow along the crops. Weed can be manually be pulled out or by using a trowel. They are also removed by spraying weedicides Some common weeds are; wild oat, grass, Amaranthus etc.

6.Protection from pests and diseases - Pests are organisms that attack and damage crops Pests can be controlled by pesticides chemicals. Pesticides kill pests as well as their eggs and larvae but do not effect the crop.
7.Harvesting, threshing and winnowing - Crops can be harvested by using sickle or by a harvester .Threshing can be done by a thresher. Both can be done by a machine called combine . Winnowing can be done by wind or by winnowing machine.
8. Storage - Food grains can be stored in silos or granaries
A buffer stock is also maintained .
It is done so that grains are available in plenty when there is a shortfall or famine.
