Given :

  • In Marry's English class, the ratio of the number of students receiving A grade to the total number of students is 6:25 and in John 's English class, the ratio is 5:20.

To Find :

  • Which class has a better record of A grades ?

Solution :

⠀⟶⠀Ratio of Marry's class = 6:25

⠀⟶⠀Ratio of Marry's class = 6/25

⠀⟶⠀Ratio of John's class = 5:20

⟶⠀Ratio of John's class = 5/20

Comparing both the ratios :

⠀⟶⠀6/25 ( < , > ) 5/20

As the denominators are not same, so we will make the denominators same by taking the LCM (Lowest Common Factor) of the denominators.

LCM of denominators :

2 | 25 , 20

2 | 25 , 10

5 | 25 , 5

5 | 5 , 1

| 1 , 1

∴ LCM of 25 and 20 = 2 × 2 × 5 × 5 = 100

Making the Denominators same :

⠀⟶⠀6/25 = 6 × 4/25 × 4 = 24/100

⠀⟶⠀5/20 = 5 × 5/20 × 5 = 25/100

Thus on comparing the ratios we get that Ratio of John's class is more as 24/100 < 25/100.
