Medieval period is known for the evolution of religious trends.During this period Hinduism underwent many changes and become very different from what it was during the Vedic period.

The Nayanars and and Alvars who came from all castes including those who were untouchables.They preached ardent love of Shiva or Vishnu as the path to salvation.
Bhakti saints like Tukaram ,Namdev,Jnaneshwar and Eknath popularised the worship of Vitthala(a form of Lord Vishnu)
Chaitanya in Bengal Made Krishna Bhakti popular ,Tulsidas was a devotee of Rama.and Surdas was a devotee of Krishna and composed bhajans for expressing his devotion to Krishna,Mirabai a Rajput princess expressed her love and devotion for Krishna through her Bhajans.
