Answer:

Meiosis takes place in the tiny sprorophyte stage of moss, which are attached to and dependent on the much larger gametophyte stage. The sporophytes create spores by meiosis, which disperse by wind and water to form new gametophytes

Hope it helps!

In mosses, meiosis occurs during the sporophyte stage.

  • Mosses are a class of bryophytes which normally grow as clumps in moist regions. It has two stages in it's life cycle- the protonema stage and the leafy stage.
  • After fertilization, the zygote develops into a sporophyte which remains attached to the female gametophyte.
  • Spores are produced in the capsules of the sporophyte by meiosis, which can give rise to mature gametophytes.
