The things that makes the food sour are-

• Acidic solutions , they make the food sour, like lemon juice , organic acids such as acetic acid , citric acid , tartaric acid .(their taste is sour in taste).

• Acids helps in the generation of sour taste . It is one of the five taste of human taste bud organs .

• Fermentation of sugars by the help of bacteria during the processing of food like yogurt form milk , yogurt tastes sour in taste. Here, lactic acid is produced from the fermentation of lactose sugar from milk.

• Organic Acids can also be added from outside to make the food sour, like vinegar (acetic acid) added to various food products to give it sour taste , tamarind (tartaric acid) is used in vegetables like lady finger to give it sour taste, in some cases lemon juice also added to various food products to give it sour taste.
