In my book, it is written that bases increase the concentration of (OH)- ions but I have also read that bases decreases (H)+ ions. Now anyone please tell me that what exactly bases do?

Answer:

The higher the concentration of H3O+ (or H+) in a solution, the more acidic the solution is.

-so if H+ ions decreases the basic nature of the solution increases.

ALSO,

The higher the concentration of OH- in a solution, the more basic the solution is.

and since the concentration of OH- increases the solution becomes more basic in nature
