Yaa atom is the smallest particle that part in a chemical reaction.
But is is not fundamental. Before 19th century it seems to be fundamental but in 19th century discovery of electrons, protons and neutrons change that thought.

In 20 th century it discovered that protons and neutrons are also not fundamental. It made up of quarks.

Nowadays Standard Model of particle physics divides matter into two parts : Fermions and Bosons.

These are fundamental.

Fermions consists of quarks and Leptons.

At last atom is fundamental for certain standards till for 12. But quarks, Leptons and Bosons are real elementary or fundamental particles.

Hope it's helpful to u.
