in Newton 3rd law action and reaction are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction so why they don't cancel each other

because action and reaction are applied on different bodies. they would get cancelled if they were on same body.

for example, a box placed on ground applies action force on Earth and Earth applies reaction on the box.

the same question once I asked my teacher, you reminded me of that.
