in spinel structure, O ion form fcc
Mg ions occupy 1/8 tetrahedral voids
and Al occupies 1/8 tv and 1/4 ov

- In MgAl2O4, O ions are arranged by CCP structure.
- In CCP structure, there are 8 tetrahedral and 4 octahedral voids.
- In each molecule, there are 4 O atoms, 1 Mg atom and 2 Al atoms.
- Out of 8 tetrahedral spaces only 1 is filled by Mg atom, therefore percentage of tetrahedral voids occupied is 100/8 = 12.5 %.
