Inch
- In the olden times, one inch was considered equal to the width of a man's thumb.
- In the fourteenth century, it was believed that when three grains of barley were placed touching end to end, their total length was considered to be one inch.
Foot
- In olden times, man's feet were also used to take measurements.
- A man's foot was considered to be approximately inches.
- Therefore inches were taken as one foot.

- This scale originated in ancient Egypt.
- The distance from the fingertips to the elbow was taken as one cubit.
Pace
- This measurement originated from the marching of ancient Roman soldiers.
- Their two steps were considered as one pace.
