Given:

In one 60V,100W bulb is to be connected to 100V,50 Hz ac source.

To find:

The potential drop across the conductor is

Solution:

From given, we have,

In one 60V,100W bulb is to be connected to 100V,50 Hz ac source.

60V, 100W bulb

P = 100 W

V = 60 V

P = VI

I = P/V

I = 100/60

∴ I = 1.67 A

P = I²R

R = P/I²

R = 100/1.76²

∴ R = 35.85 Ω

100V, 50 Hz

V = 100 V

f = 50 Hz

Z = V/I

Z = 100/1.67

∴ Z = 59.88 Ω

I = V/Z

I = 60/59.88

∴ I = 1 A

The voltage drop is,

V = 1.67 × 35.85 - 1 × 59.88

∴ V = - 0.0105 V

As load current increases, the voltage drop in the wiring increases and the voltage delivered to the system drops.

∴ The potential drop across the conductor is  0.0105 V
