According to given information,

We can say that,

⇒ The speed of downstream (speed while going along water [stream]) is speed of boat + speed of stream,.

⇒ The speed of up stream (speed while going against water [stream]) is speed of boat - speed of stream,.


Let the speed of boat be x,.

Let the speed of stream be y,.

Then,.

x + y = 11,....(1)

&

x - y = 5,....(2)

subtracting equation (1) from (2)

We get,

⇒ (x - y) - (x + y) = 5 - 11

⇒ x - y - x - y = - 6
 
⇒ -2y = -6

⇒ y = $\frac{-6}{-2}$

⇒ y = 3,.


∴ Speed of stream is 3 kmph,.
