in order to understand why precipitation occurs you must remember the following two points

1. air cools as it rises and as air cools, water vapour condenses more than it evaporates
2. when air pressure drops condensation occurs and when air pressure rises, evaporation occurs
3. air warms as it rises and as air rises water vapor condenses more than it evaporates
4. air cools as it rises and as air cools, water vapor rises than it condenses

Option 4 is correct: air cools as it rises and as air cools, water vapor rises than it condenses.

Reason is explained below: As air rises above earth surface, it expands and cool down.

As it cools, the air's capacity to hold water vapor decreases.

If the air cools to and below  its dew point, i.e. at saturation temperature condensation of the water vapor occurs is forced some of the water vapor in the air condenses to liquid water droplets.
