No.of carbon atoms = 40/12 = 3.33/3.33 = 1

Atomic mass of hydrogen = 1

No. of hydrogen atoms = 6.66/1 = 6.66/3.33 = 2

(No. of atoms must be divided by smallest value)

Therefore, empirical formula = CH₂

n = V.D * 2/ molecular mass

  = 90*2/15

n = 12

Molecular formula = (CH₂)ⁿ

                              = C₁₂H₂₄
