In the organism other than plant, most of the ATP is produced in the mitochondria, this occurs during the cellular respiration and hence this mitochondria are called as power house of the cell.

EXPLANATION:

The cellular respiration takes place in three different phase.

  • Glycolysis phase
  • Kerb cycle
  • Electron transport phase

The glycolysis phase and kerb cycle produces the raw material required for ATP production and the electron transport phase with oxidative phosphorylation produces maximum ATP.

This entire process occurs inside the cell components. This process results in net gain of two ATP molecules. This process occurs only if the oxygen is present.
