The best points that can help you find the solution quick for a given equation are,

1) Take x = 0, You will get value of y.

2) Take y = 0, You will get value of x.

Do this for both lines.

Now, You get a rough idea of how the lines are, and a probable idea as where they will intersect.

The next point you should take is,

1, - 1 as x and find values of y.

Repeat the same by taking 1, - 1 as the y and find value of x.

Now, Join all these points and extend them using a scale retaining their slope. You will get a point where they will intersect. That's the solution of the given pair of equations.
