Lord Ullin seems to be a strict father and a strict disciplinarian. He could not tolerate his daughter's decision to marry against his will. He was following them in order to kill the man not his daughter. There is no doubt that he loved his daughter. But it is  no use expecting him to accept the man to ensure his daughter's happiness, even though he promises to accept him in his grief later. But there was no guarantee that he would have listened to reason before.
So it was a right that his daughter wanted to go away with the man she loved. Once she knew that she loved him she wanted to live or die with him. That shows the loyal nature of the girl. If she had left her lover for her father, she would have destroyed two lives, hers and her lover's. So she decided to run away with him and hoped to live else where happily ever after. The tragic end does not make her decision wrong when we think about the emotional side of the matter.
