In pea plants tall stems ( T ) are dominant over short stems ( t ) and round seeds ( r ) are dominant over wrinkles seeds ( r ) . Consider the following cross : TtRr x Ttrr Find the number of possible phenotypes

(i) 2
(ii) 4
(iii) 6
(iv) 8

Answer: iii) 6

Explanation:

If u take them individually, Tt x Tt gives 3 phenotypes i.e. TT, Tt and tt.

Similarly for Rr x rr one gets 2 phenotypes i.e. Rr and rr.

No need to look at the ratio of phenotypes.

Multiply 3 x 2 and get the answer = 6

This is short, easy and quick method. Other method is to cross them and  check and count which is too long for examinations.
