Human skin colour in a population varies from very pale to very dark. This range of possible phenotypes is due to the combination of expression of various genes. An individual's skin colour phenotype depends on which of the alleles of the skin colour are inherited. This is known as polygenic inheritance (more than one gene control a particular trait).
