In physics, refraction is the change in direction of a wave passing from one medium to another or from a gradual change in the medium. Refraction of light is the most commonly observed phenomenon, but other waves such as sound waves and water waves also experience refraction.

hope it helps

Refraction is the passing of a beam of light from a rarer to a denser medium such as air to glass. The ray of light divides into two parts the the direction it should go to and the direction it went. It goes towards the normal and passes through which is further called the refracted ray.
