The Bazaars of Hyderabad - by Sarojini Naidu

This poem is written by Sarojini Naidu, the nightingale of India. She was a politician but her love for poems is unforgettable. She was born in Hyderabad during British India rule in 1879.
In this poem, she has described a normal bazaar (market) of Hyderabad. She tells what different vendors offer.
There are merchants who sell clothes, turbans, mirrors and daggers. There are spices, anklets, fruits etc.
There is a flower girl who sells crown which adores grooms, chaplets which set the dream and garlands his bed. Then there are many many white garlands arranged to put on someone's deathbed and scent the surrounding of the dead person.

Sarojini Niadu, in her poem 'The Bazaars of Hyderabad', asks flower-girls what they weave. Along with crown for bridegroom and garlands for his bed, they weave sheets of white blossoms to be put on the shroud/coffin of dead. Hence, she uses the phrase 'to perfume the sleep of dead.'
