● In presence of Cyanide, azide and carbon monoxide the rate of respiration decreases.

● The rate of respiration decreases in the presence of above mentioned compounds because they act as inhibitors of enzymes which facilitate the respiration and reaction.

● In the absence of active enzymes the exchange of gases and the chemical reactions which takes place during respiration does not takes place and hence affect the the process of breathing.

In presence of cyanide, azide and carbon monoxide, the rate of respiration decreases.

Option A

Explanation:

Cyanides, azides as well as carbon monoxide are the deadly chemicals, whose particular small concentration is very effective to kill a person. All of these compounds are Irreversible enzyme inhibitors. Cyanide blocks the action of cytochrome a_3 breaking the disulphide bonds between Iron and Sulphur.  Azides are converted into hydrazoic acid which acts similarly like cyanides. Carbon monoxide blocks the haemoglobin by binding with the iron of heme.

Thus in presence of these chemicals, cellular respiration decreases to a great extent which if not looked very quickly will certainly lead to the death of the affected person.
