In present scenario, why it is important to reduce area under rice-wheat crops in Punjab.

 Punjab is a part of the “Indo Gangetic Plain” which produces a huge amount of the rice-wheat crops annually that contributes a large portion of the country’s total food grain in a year.

But the region is facing issues like poor soil health, a decline in the underground water level, change in agro-climatic conditions, excessive use of chemicals etc which is recently demanding for reduction of rice-wheat crop cultivation area in the region.
