You are right that Hanuman could have destroyed whole of Lanka and rescued Sita from there. Also he could have flown the monkeys, Rama, Lakshmana across the ocean. He could have done a lot more. However, it was sita's desire that Rama had to go to Lanka and defeat Raavana and kill him. Then Rama could win Sita back. This is what she told Hanuman.
