Given : Rectangle ABCD, AB  = 8 cm, BD  = 10 cm.

To Find : AD

Solution:

Right angle is a parallelogram with all angles as 90° ( right angles)

AB = 8 cm

BD = 10 cm

In ΔABD , ∠A is right angle

Hence ΔABD  is right angled triangle

Using Pythagorean Theorem

BD² = AB² + AD²

Substitute AB = 8  and BD = 10

=> 10² = 8² + AD²

=> 100 = 64 + AD²

=> AD² = 36

=> AD = ± 6

Length can not be negative

Hence AD = 6 cm
