Scalar chain is the formal path of communication. It is one of the main principle of management given by Henry fayol. In. this principle, communication passes from one person to other officially. Let be an example...

In above example, It shows that there is a formal path between A, B, C, D.. And through scalar chain message can pass only in sequence like Firstly from A to B and then from B to C and then C to D.. Thus communication goes through formal channels.


In scalar chain, sometimes needs arises to communicate with a person directly in that case gang plank is started which means emergency route from sending message from one person to other.
