If you are a beginner, i would suggest you to not follow any specific color to start off with. Because in that way you will understand about the cube’s color orientation more deeper.

But if you would like to go easy just to start off with, white and yellow are good to go with.

( I would usually go with the color which takes less moves to solve the cross when practicing, but in competitions i would most probably go with white or yellow.)
