In Rutherford’s gold foil experiment, most alpha particles passed through the gold foil without deflection and were detected on the screen. What caused the particles to pass through without any deflection?

because most of the space is empty in the foil so it pass through without any deflection but only some means 1%or less deflected from the centre.
