The total voltage is 5V.

Given,

Voltage across resistor=5V

Voltage across inductor=2V

Voltage across capacitor=2V.

To find,

the total(resultant) voltage.

Solution:

  • The concept here referred to is that of a series LCR circuit.
  • It is from the chapter"Alternating Current".

As the voltage across the inductor and the capacitor are equal so their difference will be 0.

Thus, the resultant voltage in the circuit will be equal to the voltage across the resistor, i.e 5V.

It shows that the current is in phase with the voltage across the resistor.

  • The current in a series LCR circuit is given by:
  • io=\frac{Vo}{Z}.
  • where, io-current flowing in the circuit, Z-impedence of the circuit, Vo-peak value of voltage.

Hence, the resultant voltage is 5V.
