In SHM, should'nt both maximum kinetic energy and maximum potential energy equal to total mechanical energy? We see, at mean position K.E. is maximum (because of maximum velocity) and potential energy is minimum i.e. equal to zero (because displacement from mean "x" is zero) then all the energy will be because of K.E. only (since energy is conserved when P.E. zero K.E. will be equal to total mechanical energy)?

Answer:

IT'S NOT COMPULSORY THAT THE POTENTIAL ENERY IS ALWAYS ZERO (0) AT THE MEAN POSITION.....
