The alimentary canal consists of various organs which help in digestion. The digestion begins in mouth where carbohydrates are broken down. Then the food passes to oesophagus where no digestion takes place but a process called peristalsis occur. Then food passes to stomach where proteins are broken into peptones. Further the bile juice helps in emulsification of fats. The intestinal juice also helps in digestion. Then the undigested food passes to kidney which contains numerous nephrons which help in reabsorption. Minerals and vitamins present are absorbed and the unabsorbed food is passed out.
