Answer:
Nasruddin was walking through the market. His friends, Ajmal and Asif, were also with him. It was a market day. The place was very crowded. Vendors were calling out to the people, “Come, come, buy fresh vegetables from us.” “Come, come, buy fresh fruits from us.”
“I don’t think these fruits are fresh. I have visited many places. I have seen these fruits growing on trees. I have eaten them freshly plucked from the trees. These are not fresh,” said Nasruddin to his friends.
“Oho, have you seen orchards? Where have you seen them?” asked Ajmal surprisingly.
“I have been to Coorg.
I have seen orchards there.
I have been to Ooty.
I have seen orchards there.
I have been to Kashmir and Yelagiri.
I have seen orchards there as well.
I have been to many many places,” responded Nasruddin.
Suddenly they heard a loud announcement, “People, dear people, gather around us. We have something interesting to show you. Come fast.”
They looked towards the place from where the sound came. It was from the center of the market. There were two strangers standing on the roof of a shop and calling out to the people.
“Who are they? What are they going to do?” asked Asif.
“Let’s go and see,” said Nasruddin.
Nasruddin and his friends walked towards the strangers. Many people had gathered there already. The place became very very noisy.
Then, one of the strangers took out an apple from his pocket and showed it to the people.
He said, “Look, this is an apple.”
“Who doesn’t know that this is an apple,” commented Nasruddin.
The stranger moved fifteen steps ahead, placed the apple on his head and stood still. His companion took out a bow and an arrow from his bag. He aimed the arrow at the apple.
The crowd became excited. They started making a lot of noise.
He then said, “I am going to shoot that apple on his head. If I fail, my friend might die. But you should all be silent. I need to concentrate.”
Slowly the crowd became silent.
The stranger took his aim. He pulled the string.
People held their breaths.
“Whooosh…” went the arrow. “Chick”, it sliced the apple into two pieces.
The crowd clapped and cheered. They gave money to the strangers. The strangers collected all the money and left.
Ajmal said, “What a skill those strangers have. I wish I could also do like them.” “Yes, I was also thinking the same,” replied Asif.
“Hmm… They indeed are skilled. But I should also try and do this in front of Asif and Ajmal. I should impress them. But I am not very skilled in archery. I should think of some way,” thought Narsuddin to himself.
