In single celled organisms diffusion is sufficient to meet the requirements because the single cell is in contact with external environment and in multicellular organisms, all the cells are not in contact with environment and all the cells cannot meet their requirements. In multicellular organisms food cannot be transported to all the parts of body through diffusion as they are complex.
