Answer:

y=4,

Explanation:

14=3y+x

put x =2

14=3y+2

14-2=3y

12=3y

12/3=y

4=y

y=4

To solve :-

14 = 3y + x ->eqn(i) \\ 20 = 2y - 3x ->eqn(ii)

Solution :-

(3y + x = 14) \times 2 \\ (2y - 3x = 20) \times 3

Multiplying eqn(i) with 2 and eqn(ii) with 3

6y + 2x = 28 \\ 6y - 9x = 60

⇒ \: 6y + 2x = 28 \\  \:   \: \:  \:  \:  \:  \: 6y - 9x = 60  \\  \:  \:  \:  \: ( - ) \:  \:  \:  \: ( + ) \:  \:  \:  \: ( - ) \\  ⇒ \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: 11x =  - 32

x =  \frac{ - 32}{11}

Putting the value of x in eqn(i)

⇒3y + x = 14 \\ ⇒3y  +   \frac{( - 32)}{11} = 14 \\ ⇒3y = 14  +   \frac{32}{11}  \\ ⇒3y =  \frac{14 + 32}{11}  \\ ⇒3y =  \frac{154 + 32}{11}  \\ ⇒3y =  \frac{186}{11}  \\ \\⇒ y =  \frac{186}{11 \times 3}  \\ y =  \frac{62}{11}
