In some plants like desert plants, epidermis has a thick waxy coating of cutin (chemical substance with waterproof quality) on its outer surface. Can we think of a reason for this?

This is due ti because all plants need to be hydrated to live a propr and healthy life.We know that the plants which usually grow in desert  have a thick waxy coating on the  surface so that they don't loose much water during the process of transpiration. As we know that the rate of transpiration  increases with increase in temperature,so it is very nominal that a desert plant would tend to loose much more water as compared to the normal plants living in terrestrial regions.

The second reason for this could be that the soil(sandy)found in desert does not have much water retention capacity, becuz of the presence of large granules of sand.Hence, most of the water drains down to the water bed and the plants have comparatively less supply of water from the soil's part.Hence this waxy coating helps the plants like cactus to surviv even in those typical high temps.

HOPE IT HEPS U MY FRND.

Heya !!!!

Here's your answer !!!

The epidermis of desert plants is covered by waxy coating of cutin....

They act as a barrier and helps in reduction of loss of water through transpiration.....

Desert plants grow in arid conditions and they don't have sufficient water... In order to prevent the loss of water through transpiration the epidermis is covered with waxy coating of Cutin...

Hope this helps you :)
