Even though Indian receives abundant rainfall, it is still a thirsty land. This is because

1. Rainfall is not uniform in all the places throughout the country. Some areas have more rainfall and some receive scanty rainfall.

2. Due to global warming and the consequence rise in temperature, there is a tendency for the quick evaporation of water, making the climate dry and hot.

3. No sufficient measures have been adopted by the government to build water reserves and make facilities for rain water harvesting.

4. Rapid growth of population, urbanization and changing lifestyle have posed serious threat to water security.

5. Low public consciousness about the overall scarcity and economic value of water results in its wastage and inefficient use leading to scarcity.

6. Water conservation policies and water resources projects are implemented improperly without giving due consideration to optimum utilization and environmental sustainability.

Answer:

This is because the rainfall is not even at all the places that is why some areas in India receive scanty rainfall and some receive more rainfall.

The second reason is that due to global warming and the consequence rise in temperature, there is a tendancy of quick evaporation of water and thus leading to hot an dry climate..
