Sponges are filter feeders as the microvilli of collar cells filtre the food materials( microscopic plants and animals) from the water entering into the body. Then these food materials are taken up by Choanocytes into their food vacuoles and then the digestion takes place inside these food vacuoles. It shows that digestion in sponges is INTRACELLULAR. And so the digestion takes place completely in CHOANOCYTE CELLS.

I hope it will help you

Choanocye or Collar cell is the part of the sponge where digestion occurs.

This part is present at the whip-like appendages structure of the sponge, called flagella.

This part comes in contact with water and is beaten with water at every moment, giving it the nutrients which aid the digestion.
