Reasons:

Sugar test is generally a group of tests like Benedict’s test or Fehling’s test where the sugar gives a positive result by appearing a precipitate. Benedict’s reagent is mainly copper sulphate alkalinised with sodium carbonate and sodium citrate.

As sugar is heated with basic copper sulphate, the sugar reduces the cupric ions to cuprous ions and produces cuprous oxide which is insoluble in water and produces a precipitate, whose colour varies according to its concentration, from faint yellow to brick red or brown. This is why the precipitate appears in the sugar test.
