In term of breaking stress why elephant has thicker legs than human being

The breaking stress is defined as the ratio of the weight to the area of cross section

i.e Breaking stress =Breaking weight/Area

Breaking weight=breaking stress×Area

This shows that the breaking weight is directly proportional to area . Thus , to balance the heavier weight of elephant , the area of the legs should be thicker . Hence , Elephant has thicker legs (to prevent from breaking ) as compared to human beings to area .
