Hello Dear.

Here is your answer---

Refers to the attachment for the Questions.

Given---

    AB = 4 cm.
    BC = 5 cm.
    AC = AB + BC
          = 4 + 5
          = 9 cm.

  We know the theorem,

If a chord in a tangent intersects externally, then the product of the length of the segments of the chord is equal to the square of the length of the tangent from the points of contact to the point of Intersection.

Thus,
       AD² = AB × BC
       AD² = 4 × 9
       AD² = 36
       AD = √36
      AD = +/- 6 cm

Since -6 cm cannot possible( because length cannot be negative) , thus, length of AD = + 6 cm.

Hope it helps.

Have a Marvelous Day.
