We cannot restrict women’s educational advances to their progressive incorporation into formal or institutional education because these, at the most, would only serve to explain political intentions which tell us little about the effect that these institutions had on their female consumers and it would have us avoid what perhaps may be the most important learning experiences in women’s lives. We should not forget that political intentions channel themselves in various ways. School is no more than one contemporary method of legitimisation which exists simultaneously with ancestral educational forces: family, tradition, the pulpit, relationships, etc., and with new ones - movies, the media, etc. Neither should we forget the learning periods which emerge from situations of social unrest, such as war, which through their uniqueness provoke extraordinary experiences.
