In the 75 litres of mixture of milk and water, the ratio of milk and water is 4 : 1. The quantity of water required to make the ratio of milk and water 3: 1 is :

let amount of water in initial stage be x litre

amount of milk will become 4x

now , 4x+x=75

x=15 litre and amount of milk becomes 15×4=60 litre

now in final stage ratio becomes 3:1 but amount of milk will be same

and we increase the amount of water to decrease ratio of milk in solution .

now, let amount of water be x .. then amount of milk becomes 3x which is same as initial stage ..

3x=60

x=20 litre ..
