In the ∆ABC, ∠B is a right angle, D and E are the midpoints of the sides AB and AC
respectively. If AB = 6cm and AC = 10cm, then find the length of DE.

ΔABC is a right angled

∴According to Pythagoras theorem

AB² + BC² = AC²

(6)² + BC² = (10)²

36 + BC² = 100

BC² =100 - 36 = 64

BC = √64 = 8cm

∵DE are midpoints of AB & AC,

DE║BC & DE = 1/2 BC [Mid-Point Theorem]

DE = 1/2 × 8

de = 4cm
