Microorganisms are the decomposers on the earth. they convert all the the biodegradable substance into carbon dioxide and nutrients. then these nutrients replenish the soil again with nutrients. and if there is no microorganisms on the earth, the earth would become a heap of dead plants and animals.

Microorganisms like bacteria and fungi are also known as decomposers. Decomposers are those organisms which breaks down complex organic substances into simple inorganic compounds back to the soil.So in the absence of microorganisms these dead organisms wont decompose back to earth and it would remain forever on the earth.
