(b) Chlorophyll.

Chlorophyll is a green pigment present in the chloroplasts which helps in trapping the light energy and without which photosynthesis will never occur in green plants.

In the absence of ‘chlorophyll’ the photosynthesis will not occur on the leaves.

The plants produce starch through a process called ‘photosynthesis’ with the help of water and carbon di oxide in the presence of sunlight. This entire process happens in the chloroplasts that contain the chlorophyll, the green pigment.

The chlorophyll is essential pigments that trap the sunlight from the external atmosphere and help in gaining energy for photosynthesis.
