Explanation:

Apparatus:::::Protractor,white drawing sheet,pencil,board pins,measuring scale,glass slab.

formula:

delta x=t sin d/cos r

where;

delta x=shift

t=thickness of glass slab

d=deviation=i-r

r=angle of refraction

Answer:

Refractice index of the glass = \frac{Thickness of glass slab}{Thickness of glass salb-vertical shift}

Explanation:

Apparatus: Chart paper, pins, pen.

Steps to find vertical shift:

  • Place the chart paper on the table.
  • Place the glass slab on the chart and draw the outlines of the glass slab.
  • Draw a perpendicular line to the line AB.
  • Now place a pin on one side AB of the glass slab, and other pin in such a way that two pins appear to be of the same height when, one pin can seen through glass slab and other is not.

The perpendicular distance between the two pins is the vertical shift produced by the glass slab.

Refractice index of the glass = \frac{Thickness of glass slab}{Thickness of glass salb-vertical shift}
