∆ABD and ∆ADC are right angled triangles.


By py.theorm,

AB^2=BD^2 + AD^2 in ∆ABD

AC^2=AD^2 + DC^2 in ∆ADC


By subtracting both the equations we get. :

AB^2 - AC^2 = BD^2 -DC^2


Hence AB^2 - BD^2 =AC^2-DC^2
