In the adjoining figure, ABEC is a rectangle of size 18 cm by 10 cm. Angle E = 90• and EC = 8 cm. Find the area of the shaded region​

In △BCE

⇒EB² + EC² =BC²

⇒EB² =BC² −EC²

⇒EB = √ 100 - 64 = √36 = 6cm

Area of the △EBC= 1/2 ×EB×EC

= 1/2 ×6cm×8cm=24cm²

Area of rectangle ABCD=18cm×10cm=180cm²

Area(shaded region) =ar(rectangle)−ar(△BCE)

180cm² −24cm² =156cm²
