Solution!!

The ∆ABC and ∆ACD are right-angled triangles which means that one angle in each of the triangle is 90°. The hypotenuse of ∆ABC is the perpendicular of ∆ACD.

First, let's find out the AC by using Pythagoras Theorem.

(AB)² + (BC)² = (AC)²

(4 cm)² + (3 cm)² = (AC)²

16 cm² + 9 cm² = (AC)²

25 cm² = (AC)²

AC = √25 cm²

AC = 5 cm

Now that we have AC and CD, we can find out AD by using Pythagoras Theorem.

(AC)² + (CD)² = (AD)²

(5 cm)² + (12 cm)² = (AD)²

25 cm² + 144 cm² = (AD)²

169 cm² = (AD)²

AD = √169 cm²

AD = 13 cm
